TGIF.
It's Friday. We had our midterms today. Which means that our time here in Madrid is half over.
But, my finals went so well! Made an A.
Then came home for lunch, took a siesta, and then went shopping with Ashley.
Bought a really cute dress.
Then came back home to get ready for the bull fight.
Our madre had a snack ready for us!! WATERMELON.
Oh man, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
It has been so hot here that the watermelon was perfection.
Then we went to the bull fight.
I was so apprehensive about going, but I knew that I couldn't pass up on the opportunity while I was in Spain.
Needless to say, I cried.
All I could think about was my favorite book as a child.
Ferdinand. He was a bull who love to sit underneath the cork tree and smell the flowers.
When he grew up, he became big and strong, so they took him to the arena to fight the matador.
But, when he got there all he could do was smell the roses that were in the women's hair.
So, they took him back to the corktree to smell the flowers.
Found out today, that the crowd can veto a bull if they don't like the way that he is fighting.
But, he doesn't go back to where he came from. They kill him anyways.
Because he too dangerous or something.
Hmmm... wonder why?!?
If someone poked me with a sharp spear, I think I'd be dangerous, too.
It was a once in a life time experience and I'm glad I went.
But, I will never see another bull fight as long as I live.
I wonder what makes a culture like something as violent and terrible as that.
There was a mother and son that sat right in front of me and she was teaching her son all about the fight.
She told him when to cheer (when the bull was helplessly getting stabbed by 3 or 4 matadors) and then she covered his eyes at the bad parts (when one of the matadors got trampled, which was the only time that I said "Ole!" by the way). It made me so sad.
I want to introduce to them American football.
It's a much better past time.
After the bull fight, the entire group went out to dinner and the went out for McFlurry's at McDonald's.
It was a wonderful meal and a good taste of home.
Anyways, enough rambling. Gotta get to bed because we have another day trip tomorrow- to Toledo!
So pumped.
Here are the pictures from today!
plaza de toros
the outside of the arena. it was a beautiful building.
the inside! we were all the way up at the top.
there were thousands of people there.
the oldest princess was there with her children to judge the fight.
the matadors being presented.
this was bull number one of six.
bless his heart.
